Moe’s History
Moe’s Southwest Grill, known simply as Moe’s, is an American fast-casual restaurant franchise that specializes in Mexican-style cuisine. Founded in 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia, the chain has since grown to over 700 locations in the United States, as well as locations in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and El Salvador. Moe’s is owned and operated by Focus Brands, a company that also owns several other fast-casual restaurants such as Auntie Anne’s and Carvel.
Moe’s was founded by Raving Brands, a restaurant conglomerate based in Atlanta. The original founders wanted to create a restaurant chain that offered fresh and delicious Mexican food in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. To accomplish this, they hired executive chef Bruce Harmon to create a menu featuring burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, salads, and other Mexican-inspired dishes. The restaurant also quickly became known for its unique and amusing atmosphere, which includes fun and quirky décor, a lively soundtrack, and a friendly team of employees that often greet customers with the phrase, “Welcome to Moe’s!”
The first Moe’s location opened in 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia. By 2004, the restaurant had over 100 locations and had become a popular spot for both locals and tourists. In 2006, the chain was acquired by Focus Brands, a company that owns several other fast-casual restaurant chains.
Since 2006, Moe’s has grown rapidly. The chain currently has over 700 locations in the United States, as well as locations in Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and El Salvador. The restaurant has also won numerous awards, including the Nation’s Restaurant News’ “Hot Concept” award in 2008 and the “Best Mexican Restaurant” award from USA Today in 2009.
The success of Moe’s has been attributed to its fresh and delicious food, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and commitment to sustainability. The chain is committed to sourcing sustainable ingredients, minimizing waste, and reducing their carbon footprint. Additionally, Moe’s regularly gives back to the community by partnering with local charities and sponsoring events.
Moe’s continues to be a popular destination for Mexican-style cuisine. With its commitment to sustainability and its delicious food, it’s no wonder Moe’s has become one of the most successful fast-casual restaurant chains in the United States.
